Solar motion sensor lights comprise a solar panel that charges a built-in battery during daylight hours, and a PIR (passive infrared) sensor that detects movement and triggers the light after dark.

How They Work

The PIR sensor detects heat and movement within its detection range, typically 5–12 metres.

Most solar motion sensor lights offer two main operating modes:

Motion-activated only mode switches the light on briefly when triggered.

Dusk-to-dawn mode with motion boost keeps a dim light on all night and brightens when movement is detected, improving efficiency and battery life.
